Unfortunately, the pumpkin shooting will not be able to take place this year due to the corona prevention measures.
Since 2011 the pumpkin town of Kasterlee has an unusual annual tradition: the Belgian Championship Punkin Chunkin. Using home-made giant catapults, the competing teams challenge each other to throw a pumpkin as far as possible.
Medieval trebuchet
The giant catapults, built by people who put their hearts and souls into these contraptions, resemble medieval trebuchets. The pumpkin itself weighs about 5 to 10 kilos. One of the rules is that it must not be frozen. Check out the competition rules the right-hand side of the page.
Fringe events
The Belgian Championship Punkin Chunkin attracts participants from far and wide to Kasterlee. Traditionally, it is a fun-filled affair, with lots of fringe events for children. Fun, power and spectacle guaranteed!
